Not every wish is a cosmic wish. A wish becomes a Cosmic Wish when you add science.
First, let’s take a look at the definition of “cosmic.”
Merriam Webster defines cosmic in a few nuanced ways. First, it relates to the vastness of the universe.
Second, (and this is Brownell’s favorite part) is that cosmic also suggests the spiritual or metaphysical.
And third, cosmic suggests greatness, intensity, and comprehensiveness.
Now THAT’S a wish!
A goal is something within your control, and a prayer is outside your control. Wishes occupy a unique middle ground. They feel both personal and transpersonal, both within your influence and beyond your complete control.
A Cosmic Wish is a wish with SCIENCE!

So how does a storyteller with a GSU MBA and a corporate background who writes metaphysical books get interested in the science of wishing?
Well, I was writing a novel about a magical world of wishes when one night I couldn’t’ sleep, so I listened to a science lecture. I’m weird like that. Listening to science in the middle of the night. But instead of putting me to sleep, it woke me up — literally and figuratively.
And it made me wonder: IS there science in wishing?
Well, that led to a game of scientific whack-a-mole. The more I researched, the more sciences kept popping up. Anthropology? Whack! Mirror neurons? Whack! Evolutionary biology? Whack!
That led to this huge adventure — okay, obsession — where I researched over 70 different scientists. It changed my life. I just wish I’d known about it sooner!
